Original Hand Painting of Whiskey Myers
I’m beyond excited to unveil my latest painting, Mission to Mars, a tribute to the genre-bending Southern rock band @WhiskeyMyers, inspired by their song from the 2022 album Tornillo. This 100% hand-painted 36″ x 48″ canvas captures the raw, gritty energy of a band that’s been blazing trails since 2007, blending Southern rock, country, and Americana with influences from Lynyrd Skynyrd to Led Zeppelin.
From left to right, the painting showcases the band’s members:
-
Jeff Hogg laying down the beat on drums
-
Tony Kent rocking the cowbell with his signature swagger
-
Lead singer Cody Cannon howling at the moon, channeling his soulful, electrifying vocals
-
John Jeffers shredding on lead guitar and slide guitar
-
Cody Tate tearing it up on lead guitar
-
Jamey Gleaves holding it down on bass
The painting is split into two vivid worlds:
One side rooted in the earthy, firefly-lit forests of East Texas, where the band hails from, and the other a surreal Martian landscape. A wolf, symbolizing their powerful song “The Wolf,” stands against a backdrop of fireflies and rain, nodding to another track from their catalog. The Mars side fuses the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre—a milestone venue where Whiskey Myers has headlined sold-out shows—with a futuristic Martian terrain featuring a SpaceX astronaut modeled after Elon Musk. The astronaut’s helmet bears the number 22, a heartfelt tribute to my sister Barbara, who passed away. We used to jam to Whiskey Myers’ “Die Rockin’” together, and this detail holds special meaning.
The painting pulses with a Western, John Wayne-inspired vibe, reflecting the band’s defiant, independent spirit—best captured in their song “John Wayne,” a fan favorite from Tornillo. Jamey rocks a Tornillo shirt, tying the artwork to the album’s rugged, authentic energy. Whiskey Myers, formed in Palestine, Texas, has built a devoted following through their high-energy live shows and seven studio albums, with Tornillo hitting shelves in July 2022. Known for their refusal to be boxed into one genre, they’ve sold over 1.65 million albums and racked up 2.25 billion streams, earning praise as “the real damn deal” by Esquire. Their music, a rollercoaster of hard-hitting rock and introspective ballads, resonates deeply, and this painting aims to capture that dynamic spirit.
As a special touch, the back of the canvas is autographed by all six members of Whiskey Myers, making this piece a one-of-a-kind tribute to their legacy and my connection to their music.
A massive shoutout to @khrispoage for providing stellar reference material that helped bring this vision to life. This artwork is more than a painting—it’s a celebration of Whiskey Myers’ journey, my personal connection to their music, and a tribute to those we’ve lost but carry with us.
